The Winter Distribution Feb 28-March 1 was very successful; hundreds of new shoes, thousands of new socks, and many other items have led the way. We very happily sent out hundreds of copies of the Bible and portions of it, and over a thousand copies of Easter Sunday School workbooks for children. What a wonderful week of ministry. See some photos below of our recent activities.
Our next distribution for blessings is scheduled for late June. We would like to do a combined trip in June this year, delivering school supplies and distributing more general relief items. Our hangar/storage building in Holbrook will have access issues due to construction on the airport in July this year necessitating a schedule change for school supplies this year.
As we prepare for our annual School Supply Outreach, did you know that on average, American Indian 4th graders score 19 points lower in reading than non-Native students? A lack of proficiency in reading is a clear danger sign for all aspects of academic achievement. High School graduation rates are the lowest for Native Americans of any recognized ethnic group. Among the problems that families in economically disadvantaged Native American Reservations face is choosing between food or school supplies for their kids. We don't want the children we have contact with to do without either of those things.
We have been blessed with the ability to help minister to families in need, opening the door for hearts to hear the Gospel. But we need your help to support youngsters in the most impoverished tribes get off to a good start this fall with the basic materials that will help them learn, especially in their reading skills. The ability to read will go far in their lives and you will make a difference for their eternal destiny!
The school year begins in late July on the Reservations in the Southwest, and it takes 3 months of preparation to acquire, sort and pack the thousands of school supplies necessary before we finally make the deliveries.
Items needed include the basics like backpacks, pencils, paper, scissors, glue, rulers, etc. Donate products directly to Wings of Faith or make a financial contribution designated for the School Supply Drive and we will do the shopping for for you! Or a donation for fuel expenses to transport the supplies would also be a blessing. We would like to serve 4,000 children this year for school supplies. $7 per child provides a new backpack and all the goodies inside-delivered to locations in five states. We are careful shoppers and good stewards with your donations!
Thank you for your investment in the lives of these children. Not only will it help them, but also their communities as they become the next generation of leaders. Who knows, some may even become pastors and teachers!
Many thanks for your prayers and God bless you!
